Appointments with Consultant Gastroenterologist Dr Alan Desmond are available via secure video consultation for patients resident in the UK or Republic of Ireland, and in-person at Devon Gut Clinic, Mount Stuart Hospital (TQ1 4UP).
Following your consultation, you will receive a detailed clinic letter summarising your history, assessment, and any recommended next steps. With your consent, a copy will also be shared with your GP to support continuity of care.
About Dr Alan Desmond
Dr Alan Desmond is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with over 15 years’ experience in diagnosing and managing a wide range of digestive conditions.
He provides assessment and management for symptoms and conditions including:
Acid reflux and indigestion
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
Bowel cancer screening and risk reduction
Food intolerances and functional gut symptoms
Coeliac disease and gluten-intolerance

A new patient consultation provides time to explore your symptoms in detail, review any previous tests or treatments, and discuss possible diagnoses and next steps.

If a follow-up consultation is required, this will be arranged after your initial visit. Please allow approximately 20 minutes for follow-up appointments. Follow-up appointment fee is £199.
Comprehensive IBD Review
Duration: Extended specialist consultation - 45 minutes approximately.
Fee: £449 - available for self-paying patients only
Designed for patients living with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, this extended consultation allows more time to review your diagnosis, disease course, and current management.
This appointment includes:
Detailed review of previous investigations and treatments
Discussion of current symptoms and disease control
Consideration of evidence-based treatment options
Discussion of diet and lifestyle factors relevant to IBD
Prior to your consultation, you will be asked to securely send our clinic copies of any previous endoscopy or colonoscopy reports, faecal calprotectin results, MRI or CT scan reports, and any relevant IBD clinic letters that you have available.
The aim is to ensure you feel informed, supported, and confident in your ongoing care plan.
New Patient Consultation (Medical Insurance)
Dr Alan Desmond is a registered provider with major UK private medical insurers, including Bupa, AXA Health, VitalityHealth, Aviva Health, and WPA.
If you are using private medical insurance, fees and appointment durations will be arranged in accordance with your insurer’s schedule and policy terms. Please check with your insurer in advance regarding authorisation and level of cover.
